The creation of a body of radically new art!

The story. Returning, deeply inspired, from my 100 day artist in residence in Los Angeles, I was ready to make some art, new art, not just new to me, but new to the world. Encouraged by local glass artist Christie Moody I began exploring the technique of infusing copper into glass, soon I developed a new creative language creating delicate ephemeral wire portraits in copper wire protected and preserved between two sheets of melted glass. Though more akin to drawing than sculpting, staying with wire allowed me to capitalize on all that I had learned from decades of practice making steel wire portraits.

Free to delve deep into subjects that interested me, I created a series of art about a topic very familiar to me, the Athens bar scene. Ode to a Watering Hole was shown at the TinyATH Gallery and received a wonderful writeup in Flagpole Magazine, and a wonderful spontaneous review by David Fergansin. This series represents just the beginning of what I hope to be a lifetime of exploration and discovery of a new technique.

The adventure.  My plan is to undertake a grand creative adventure, working intensively  to create a body of art using my novel copper infused in glass technique.  To maintain cohesion, I will produce the work in several series, each of up to thirty works. I’m very excited about this part of the project, the process of delving deeply as I apply and refine my new technique.

The cost of producing this work is $90,000.  See budget below.

This grand adventure, of which I hope you will be a part,  will culminate in a solo show.

To meet the financial requirements that will make this adventure possible, I’m seeking 100 Patrons, each contributing $900, either in one payment or in three installments of $300. I will share my creative journey through weekly updates on a patron only access page on my website. There you will have the opportunity to read at leisure the thought behind each series and the work developing in it, view process shots of all the work, and encounter detailed analysis of all new experiments with technique. I will also arrange for a fun Patrons’s studio visit, and Patron first access to my solo show.. At this thirty-six month journey’s conclusion, each patron will receive an exclusive folio of images featuring all the work that you and your fellow patrons have helped to create.

Will you accompany me as I begin this journey?
